Travel plans can change at a moment’s notice, but this doesn’t mean your hotel reservation has to be a lost cause. Instead of canceling against the hotel’s policy, try moving it to a later date. This way you may get a refund. Unless you have a good relationship with someone working there, they have no reason to refund you.

Call the hotel and move your reservation to a later time. Even if it is against the cancellation policy, most hotels will allow you to alter a reservation without an issue. Then after a few hours call and cancel your “new” reservation. Some hotel software is designed to prevent this type of “travel hack”, but it’s still worth a try.
